Here are two of the games projects I worked on during my time at Sheffield Hallam

Non Compos Mentis (2007)

A smaller group project from earlier in the course, where two MA students teamed with an MSc student to design a playable game concept using the unreal engine. My role was to design the characters and settings as well as co-write the back story. This was a first person game where the player can manipulate animated statues into different poses and positions to reach the goal in each chamber. Non Compos Mentis went on to win Best Game Design at the Game Republic Showcase (15/04/08).

Lux (2008)

This was a major group project created from scratch including the game engine in just 6 weeks. We self managed our team of 12 students from both the MA and Msc Games courses. Lux is a first person puzzle game with a retro future setting in a distant corner of the galaxy. The player must use a light gun which collects and fires light of different colours to solve a variety of puzzles. My role was to design and create several assets for the game. As there was not much time to refine the game engine, we had to work to very tight specifications with strict polygon limits and texture sizes. Very tight deadlines were set and full team meetings were held every Monday morning, to update everyone on where we were with our individual tasks and set new team targets.

We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to present our project to senior staff of Sony Computer Entertainment in their boardroom at the London studio in August 2008. Their feedback was very encouraging and the demo is currently being considered for publication. They were most impressed by our team work and commitment, that we stayed focused and didn't fall out with each other!
